The Benefits of Our Ingredients & Essential Oils:

We try to give as much information as we can when describing our products for sale online as we appreciate how hard it can be to decide on the best product for you and your skin or hair without being able to see and try. We love it when our customers leave reviews, as this helps us all to feel more confident in purchasing a product. Some of our newer products don’t have these yet, so we have tried to make it easy for you to contact us if you have any questions at all. We are happy to help.

The ingredients in our products all play an important part in your daily skincare routine. From the many different products your skin will come in to contact with in a day, we want to make sure you start and end the day using the best ,  most  natural  and most beneficial ingredients in your bathing, cleansing and moisturising.

We don’t use Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) in our ingredients as it is a more  harsh foaming  product that potentially strips your hair or skin of any oils and can increase skin sensitivity and make skin irritable, itchy and dry.

We don’t use Palm Oil as  a  raw  ingredient  and try to avoid it  (when we can) even though  steps  are  being  made  in  the  use  of  sustainably sourced Palm Oil. We  want to  be sure that the harvesting of this oil plays no part whatsoever in de-forestation and the potential loss of animal habitats on a large scale. However, we support the efforts of the RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) as they strive to set up fairly traded and sustainable palm plantations.

We don‘t use any types of Parabens which are synthetic preservatives found in up to 90% of our foods and skincare. We are advised to use 'safe' amounts and cannot be sure we are not exceeding levels if we wear them on our skin as well as consuming them.

We limit the use of synthetic fragrances in our lotions or balms, mostly just using skin loving essential oils with their beneficial properties. Many people show allergic reactions to different fragrances and they play a part in drying your skin...makes no sense if you are trying to add moisture?! Some people have allergies to some essential oils also, so  we have products now that contain no essential oils at all - great for sensitive skins!

Organic Coconut Oil - Is high in Lauric Acid and gives an excellent lather to soaps. Palmitic Acid gives a hardness to your bar of soap and it melts on contact with skin making it ideal for all skin types including dry, itchy and sensitive skin.

Organic Shea Butter - Karite trees (or Shea trees) are not cultivated but grow only in the wild. Shea butter is an effective moisturiser because it contains so many fatty acids which are needed to retain skin moisture and elasticity. This also makes Shea Butter an excellent additive to soap, shampoos, anti-aging creams, cosmetics, lotions and massage oils. Its soft butter like texture melts readily into the skin.

Olive Oil - Excellent for the skin, olive oil attracts external moisture and holds it to the skin forming a breathable barrier without affecting the skin's natural function. Pomace grade is the best for soapmaking. This is a refined, light oil, suitable where a paler colour and lighter scent are preferred, it is not food grade and although it cannot receive a classification of organic, it is an economic way of using olive oil as it is generally a final press that would otherwise be wasted.

Spirulina - Contains most essential nutrients. It is one of the richest sources of protein among all natural foods. It is rich in organic ingredients that feed your skin. We currently use it in our Gardeners Hand Soap bars.

Paprika - Paprika has been used in make-up for decades! It is equally useful in natural soaps as it makes a wonderful colourant and is packed with Vitamin A  which is reported to help maintain a healthy complexion and assist with anti-aging. We currently use it in our Lavender soaps.

Turmeric - Again this is a useful natural colourant for soaps. Turmeric has long been used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine as an anti-inflammatory agent, is an effective treatment for skin problems and wound healing plus it provides a radiance and softness to more mature skin. We currently use it in our 'Storm Freya' soap bars.

Beetroot Powder -  It's no surprise that Beetroot has anti-aging properties. One of its major components, 'Lycopene' is an anti-oxidant that fights pro aging free radicals in the body. It helps the skin to maintain elasticity and tautness which promotes young looking skin. It also contains Vitamin C and Iron which will help to balance oily and blemished skin and give a healthy glow. We currently use Beetroot Powder in our 'Be Calm' soaps.

French Green Kaolin Clay and White Kaolin Clay - Has absorbent and detoxifying properties, perfect in skin products. In soap bars it can help to give skin a silky feel. It is suitable for all skin types, but particularly useful for more oily and acne prone skin. The clay assists with tissue repair and calms inflammation. We currently use it in our Tropical Shores, Mint Fizz Smoothie, Lime and Tea Tree and Citrus Twist soap bars.

Activated Charcoal - Is super absorbent making it an ideal ingredient for cleansing and removing toxins from the skin leaving it feeling smooth and cleansed without the use of any chemicals. Our charcoal comes from Coconut shells. We currently use this in our 'Cole' and Lime & Tea Tree soap bars.

Aloe Powder and Aloe Butter - Aloe Vera is an excellent preparation for many skin conditions such as allergies, infections, and many types of dermatitis. It can aid the natural healing process and allows skin to rapidly re-hydrate leaving it feeling soft and moisturised. We currently use it in our 'Earl Grey' Face soap bars.

Rosa Kaolin Clay - With de-toxifying and absorbent properties this clay gives a silky skin feel and is perfect to use in aqueous products like soap!

We currently use it in our Coffee and Rosa Clay Face soaps and 'Calabria' soaps.

Lime Essential Oil - This clear smelling Citrus Oil can help to lighten your mood. It is used to fight cellulite and to tone the skin in general. Lime oil has a sharp, citrus peel smell.

Rosemary Essential Oil - Smelling crisp and clean, this oil reportedly stimulates the brain, improves memory and soothes stiff muscles. It is also used for improving hair, scalp and skin health, and has been reported to reduce an itching scalp.

Clary Sage Essential Oil - Has many benefits and is especially useful to ease a congested complexion. It can help with balancing oil production and strengthens the skin.

Lemon Essential Oil - Is astringent and detoxifying. It reduces excessive oil on the skin and the scalp and helps to remove dead skin cells.

Frankincense Essential Oil - Blends its many healing properties with an intoxicating fragrance. A few drops can help to nourish dry and aging skin.

Vanilla Essential Oil - Assists the skin in promoting hydration and moisture. It has a calming and harmonising effect and has a woody, exotic smell.

May Chang Essential Oil - Native to China, 'Litsea Cubeba' has natural astringent properties, it shrinks pores and smoothes acne prone skin. Has a warm lemony scent.

Bergamot Essential Oil - Helps to create a more relaxed feeling whilst fighting oily skin, acne, psoriasis, eczema and even cold sores. The scent is citrusy, yet fruity and sweet, a spicy-floral quality.

Grapefruit Essential Oil - Can help to fight cellulite and boost your lymphatic system. It can help to clear up congested, oily skin and acne and has a sharp refreshing smell inducing a positive mood.

Orange Essential Oil - Sweet Orange is one of the most popular essential oils and can help to eliminate toxins from the body. It is rich in Vitamin C and anti-oxidants making it perfect to use in skin care products. Also gentle and cleansing in hair products.

Neroli Essential Oil - Produced from the blossom of the bitter orange tree. It has a rich honeyed scent with spicy tones and is used in many perfumes. Especially beneficial to mature, dry and sensitive skin.

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil - From the flower petals of a large tropical tree. Ylang Ylang has a calming effect on the mind and body. It has a wonderfully balancing and stimulating effect on the skin to correct sebum (oil) production.

Roman Chamomile Essential Oil - Has a warm, sweet, herbaceous but slightly fruity scent. It is great for sensitive and acne prone skin types with inflammation. It is anti-fungal, antibacterial and antiseptic plus it is rich in anti-oxidants helping to reduce further break-outs. It promotes a healthy skin glow and restores natural moisture content.

Peppermint Essential Oil - Cooling and refreshing, this essential oil helps to cool the skin, reduce redness and calm irritation and itchiness. It has a fresh, sharp, menthol smell helping to stimulate and clear the mind.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil - Helps to fight inflammation while healing and soothing skin eruptions. It has a clear, sharp, fresh and very distinctive smell.

Tea Tree Essential Oil - This oil is one of the most powerful immune system stimulants and is useful in clearing up most viral, bacterial and fungal infections. It has a light, spicy, rather pungent smell.

Lavender Essential Oil - Cleansing and refreshing, English Lavender Oil has a soothing and anti-inflammatory effect on skin, body and mind.

Organic Coconut Oil (Cocos Nucifera) - Moisturising and helps to reduce breakage.

Cetyl Alcohol - A 'fatty' alcohol, NOT the drying type, helps to soften and thicken the product.

Sodium Coco Sulfate - Coconut derived cleanser, mild and creates lather.

SLSA (Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate) - NOT SLS! Despite being a similar sounding ingredient, this is actually a mild ingredient used in many hair products, helping to create a soft lather.

Organic Unrefined Cocoa Butter (Theobroma Cacao) Seed Butter - moisturises strengthens, adds shine.

BTMS 25 (Behentrimonium methosulfate) - a vegetable derived ingredient that conditions, softens and de-tangles.

Sweet Almond Oil (Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis) - Nourishes and softens.

Jojoba (Simmondsia Chinensis) Seed Oil - conditions, helps to balance hair oils, protects dry hair.

Benzyl Alcohol - a safe preservative, non-drying.

Panthenol - Vitamin B5, strengthens, retains moisture, improves hair texture and adds shine.

Vitamin E (Tocopherol) - supports hair growth and elasticity.
